Defence
ZF transmissions and axles are selected for a wide variety of applications across the world, and non are more safety critical or important than those we supply into defence vehicles.
Many of the applications we supply are those of a support nature, vehicles which are required to lift, move, recover, transport and clear. As a result components need to be robust and durable and the servicing and support needs to be efficient and effective.
Customers
Our relationship with vehicle manufacturers is often complicated, we may never have direct contact with the vehicle manufacturer from ZFGB, instead we will deal with the DLO when the vehicles are in the field.
Some of the vehicles we are involved with are as follows:
Kalmar - RT240 Retch 4x4 Container Handler
The Kalmar rough terrain container handler is used for specialist commercial and military applications. The robust design and sturdy construction allows it to easily traverse rough and uneven terrain carrying containers of up to 40 foot in size.
We supply:
- 4WG 310 transmissions
- Bespoke kit to allow the clutch to re-set and checked in the field by the vehicle operators

Pinzgauer - Multi purpose vehicle
The Pinzgauer vehicle is able to fulfill a number of roles in both conflict and non-conflict operations. The versatility of the vehicle and the ability to have multiple configurations make it the vehicle of choice.
We supply:
- 4HP 22 transmissions in both 4 and 6 wheel drive configurations
- GA100 transfer case
- Steering assembley

AS90 - self propelled howitzer
The AS90 is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer which equips five field regiments of the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Artillery. The transmission fitted to this vehicle is the largest handled by ZF Great Britain.
The AS90 was deployed to Iraq in the 2nd Gulf war, but due to the harsh desert conditions each vehicle was required to be enhanced and customised to remain operational. This necessitated 6 ZF Service personnel from across the company spending 6 weeks in Kuwait in the foreward maintenance area under threat of gas and missile attacks.
These ZF Personnel were honoured by the MoD for their part in ensuring the AS90's remained operational.
