Environmental Responsibility
ZFGB and the environment
Here at ZFGB the sustainable and responsible use of natural resources and the future of our planet are something we care deeply about. We work hard to ensure we recycle as much of our product as possible, if we cannot reuse the parts we recycle the steel and aluminium; if we cannot use fully synthetic oils in our products we recycle the waste oil. The same is true of packaging, paper, plastics - the list goes on!
Environmental Standards - ISO14001 compliance
ISO 14001 compliance means that, as a company, we must fully understand our company and its impact on the environment. That is to say we must consider all our interractions and the potential harm they could cause if the unthinkable were to happen. For example, say our bulk oil storage containers were to leak; where would it go? Is the watercourse at risk? Could we control it?
Our Environmental Pillar Statements can be seen below, and these underpin our whole philosophy towards the environment. They form the basis of our ISO14001 certification, provide improvement and continuous improvement targets, encourage buy-in throughout the workforce, management and our customers; the list of advantages goes on!
Our Environmental Pillar Statements:
- Adherence to applicable legal and other requirements which relate to ZFGB´s environmental aspects, i.e. industry sector requirements.
- The environmental requirements of the ZF Group.
- A commitment to pollution prevention
- A policy of continuous improvement, based on realistic goals, is soundly promoted.
- Close operation and partnership with the Certification Body.
Targets & Achievements
During 2005 & 2006 ZF Great Britain embarked on a programme of environmental objectives and targets. As a result of these, ZFGB successfully:
- Reduced general waste to landfill by over 30% through a positive focus on recycling
- Reduced reliance on solvent-based parts cleaning and switch several areas over to aqueous-based solutions
- Vastly improved our storage and handling of virgin and waste oil products
- Established a comprehensive policy of reducing copier paper use
This year, the focus is on energy reduction, for which viable targets have been set. These will be met by a combination of revised practices relating to energy use, and investment in energy-saving devices where these would prove beneficial in reducing costs and carbon emissions. Also this year, further improvements to cleaning processes are planned, and trials have begun of a refurbishment process for test fluids, which will hopefully reduce the annual quantity of oils purchased.
